I know, I know. It’s been a while and I still don’t have a baby. Let’s flash back to the last several weeks and see if waxing nostalgic will get this baby to decide to come out.
Full term! Any day now! This could be our last chance to…
- eat at restaurants without a baby (or needing a sitter)
- see a movie in the theater
- enjoy a weekend just the two of us
I feel surprisingly good. We enjoy long evening walks and I don’t feel uber pregnant, even though I look the part. Everyone tells me to get some sleep, so I do. I am good at sleeping. In fact, so is my husband, so we do a lot of that these days. I think a lot about how lucky I am to have had a non-eventful pregnancy relatively free of most of the majorly sucky symptoms I’ve heard a lot about.
We’re rounding third base and heading for home. I spend most of the week enjoying the company of well traveled friends who’ve made there way back into town. Each time we say goodbye we remark that this could be the last time we see each other before I have a baby. It’s a giddy time. Everyone eager to meet this little dude.
What up due date! I can’t believe you’re finally here. It seems like
a million years ago just yesterday I was trekking through the winter slush to the doctors office where they told me I was due August 17th. Wait! Where are you going? Weren’t you supposed to signify the arrival of a baby? Ok, I realize it’s an inexact science. How about tomorrow? The next day? The day after that?
I truly and honestly did not think I would go a full week past my due date (here we are actually at due date + 9) I feel a little like McKayla Maroney. I’ve tried acupuncture, spicy foods, swimming and other (ahem) more personal ways of encouraging labor to begin. My belly seems to get bigger by the minute, which means he is getting bigger and he still has to find his way out! I keep thinking maybe things are starting to get going, but nothing ever progresses past a few irregular moments of discomfort (whether they are Braxton Hicks contractions or the real thing I have no idea. I’ve never done this before). Baby boy has 4 days to come out on his own, or the powers that be will have to jump start things for him.
